I have two kids. Sometimes, they zoom through their homework without hesitation. Other times, it has been like pulling teeth to memorize a simple list of words. It seems that the kids are either motivated or not motivated based on their moods. It certainly has been tough to maintain consistent study habits.
I have agreements with my children. Learning is top priority. After they finish their homework, they can watch TV or play Gamecube. These are written agreements posted on the frig.
As they have gotten older, I've added chores to the list. After the chores are done, they can choose free activities for themselves.
Of course, this does not mean that motivating learning is easy. It is a day-to-day challenge.

Love to hear more ideas from other parents.
